The United Kingdom and Germany have signed a joint $70 million contract to acquire the RCH 155 mobile artillery system.

According to information from Defence Blog, this platform is capable of firing while moving at speeds of up to 100 km/h and hitting targets at distances of around 70 km.

As part of the deal, announced on Sunday morning (28), the United Kingdom will receive an Early Capability Demonstrator, while Germany will receive two additional systems for shared testing and evaluation.

The purpose of the acquisition is to support the British Army’s Mobile Fires Platform program, which is looking for a long-term successor to its existing artillery capability.

It is worth noting that the current Archer systems were acquired as a temporary solution after the United Kingdom transferred AS90 guns to Ukraine.

“The British Army will soon have new artillery that can fire while moving,” said Luke Pollard, Minister for Defence Procurement and Industry of the United Kingdom.

“This is based on lessons from Ukraine, enabling our Army to strike targets at 70 km and quickly move away from return fire so they can shoot again.”

“By working alongside Germany, we’re not only accelerating the delivery of world-class artillery capabilities to the British Army, but we’re doing it more efficiently and cost-effectively than either nation could achieve on its own,” added Edward Cutts, the senior Army officer responsible for the Mobile Fires program.
